Quark Tales Gets Its Own Home — quarktales.com is Live
A story about princes and knights, honor and sacrifice, told through the oldest calendar in the world. VIDOVDAN now has a home at quarktales.com.
The year is 6897, according to the oldest calendar in the world. Thirty-three and a half years have passed since the death of Emperor Dušan. While hunting with his sons and the knights of the renowned Order of the Dragon, his successor receives news of Ottoman preparations for war and their movement toward Serbia.
That's how VIDOVDAN 6897 begins. Not with a battle — with a hunt. A prince in the forest, surrounded by his sons and the knights of the Dragon, the last light of a golden afternoon filtering through Serbian oaks. And then a messenger arrives, and everything changes.
When Vladan Mrdjenovački wrote those words, he wasn't writing a history lesson. He was writing about people — a prince of humble origin who was once a herder, a knight whose honor would become legend, soldiers who gathered from every corner of the realm because their prince asked them to come. Real people, facing an impossible choice, six centuries ago.
A Story That Demanded More Than a Page
We published VIDOVDAN 6897 on Apple Books over a year ago. Readers could hold the story in their hands, turn the pages, live inside Mrdjenovački's prose. But from the beginning, we knew the book was only the first act.
Some stories are too vast for a single medium. The world of VIDOVDAN — medieval Serbia on the edge of an Ottoman invasion, the fortress of Kruševac where the prince gathers his forces, the Kosovo field where everything will be decided with spear and sword, word, heart, and honor — this world demanded to be experienced, not just read.
Today, quarktales.com is live.
Entering the World
The new Quark Tales website isn't a product page. It's a gateway into the VIDOVDAN universe.
Walk through the four acts of the story — from the golden spring before the battle, when alliances are forged and loyalties tested, through the blood-red summer of the conflict itself, to the gray epilogue where legend is born from sacrifice.
Meet the Silvani — war dogs drawn from Serbian legend who fight alongside the knights. Discover the combat stances — Knight, Dragon, Shadow, Eagle — each rooted in a different philosophy of how a warrior faces death.
And at the center of it all, the story of Miloš Obilić: a knight who chose honor above survival, whose sacrifice on the Kosovo field echoed through six centuries of Serbian memory.
The site is available in English, Spanish, and Serbian — because this is a Serbian story, born in the Serbian language, and it should always be accessible in the tongue that gave it life.
From Page to World
At the prince's invitation, all who could come gathered below the city of Kruševac. The battle and the fate of Serbia will be decided with spear and sword, word, heart, and honor on the Kosovo field, on Vidovdan, 6897.
Quark Tales exists because we believe the best interactive worlds already exist — inside books. Our work is to find those worlds and open them up, to let people walk through the pages and into the story itself.
VIDOVDAN is our first. The book is on Apple Books. The world is at quarktales.com/vidovdan. And the game — where you will stand on that field yourself — is coming.
Read the story. Then live it.
